Do you have this problem?
Are You Being Deluged with Emails on a Daily Basis?
It’s a flood and more and more emails come every day.
How do you handle it? If you’re like me, you delete many without reading them. That takes a lot of time. So you devote less time to reading the important ones.
Your prospects and customers have the same problem.
So how do you get your prospects and customers to read the marketing messages you send them? Before I answer that, let me tell you about my own analysis.
As a writer, I have 6 different email accounts. I use each for a different aspect of my business. In the majority of these I just receive emails. I don’t use them to send emails to others.
891 Emails Received
566 (Unopened) Deleted
I tracked all the emails I received from March 22 to March 25, 2016. During those 4 days 891 emails were sent to these 6 different email accounts. Out of those 891 I deleted 566. On a daily basis I received an average of 223 emails and I deleted 63.5%.
That took up a substantial amount of time daily and It didn’t allow me to spend much time reading the emails I did not delete.
There are spam filters on each of my accounts. I did not include in these numbers emails that went automatically into my spam boxes.
What is causing this flood of emails?
- Companies view emails as a way to market their products and services easily. They send emails more frequently.
- In the past year more and more companies started emailing people on their lists daily. That has increased the number of emails dramatically.
- In the last week and on the last day of sales, many companies are sending additional emails reminding prospects to order before it’s too late.
Thank God for the Delete button. More and more people, like me, are using it to get out from the burden and stress the flood of emails is putting on them. I am sure that most are deleting about ½ to 2/3 of the emails they get without reading them.
Coming back to what I asked earlier,
How Do You Get New Prospects to Read Your
Marketing Messages and Not Delete Them?
Rather than emailing new prospects you might want to make the first contact by mail. Yes, that adds expense. However, your message is more likely to be read. People get far less mail now and are more likely to read information they get in the mail rather than that in email.
Once contact is made, email can be used. However, the information you send has to be very useful to each prospect. Otherwise you run the risk of having future emails deleted unread.
Work on becoming the “Go To” company in your field. If you do that you have a much higher chance of your prospects and opening and reading your emails. They desire to work with you.
Make regular posts on LinkedIn, Facebook and in other Social Media. That will get you known. You will make a connection with new prospects and they will be more likely to read your emails.
Using emails to get your message out to prospects and customers poses a challenge. That challenge grows bigger every day. However, you can find ways to separate yourself from the pack and get your emails opened and read.
