Have Your Content Marketing Campaigns Compensated for This?

smart-phone-then-computer

If you’re a Content Marketer, you need to be aware of this.

The Interactive Advertising Bureau(IAB) tracks how people access the internet. In their most recent Digital Trend Usage Report earlier this year, the IAB had the following comparison:

Percentage of Total Monthly Minutes on the Internet

  December, 2014                                                      December, 2015

60% – Mobile minutes                                           65% – Mobile minutes

     40% – Computer minutes                                     35% – Computer minutes

People spend more time looking at things on the Internet on their smart phones and tablets than on their computer. Furthermore, the amount of time they’re spending on their smart phones or tablets is increasing.

There are 2 things to realize here:

People still prefer to read longer pieces (articles, reports, surveys, reviews, etc.) on their computers.

People in their forties and older spend more time accessing the internet with their computers. Those in their 20’s spend more time on their smart phones and tablets.

What Changes Are Necessary in Your

Content Marketing Campaigns for This?

Check right now.

How well does your website and information it contains appear on a smart phone or tablet? Is it easy to read? If not, you may be losing prospects and customers.

What types of information do you have to have on the Internet to catch a person’s attention? Information they can read quickly.

The IAB report also revealed people prefer to read short pieces of information on their smart phones and tablets. Then they go to their computers to read the longer pieces for more information.

You Can Take Advantage of This

Make sure you have short, interesting emails or blog posts in your Content Marketing Campaigns. These will be easy to read on their smart phones and tablets. Use these to catch your prospects’ attention.

Make sure these emails and blog posts contain information about your company or the service or product you offer.  Also – include links or refer them to more detailed info on your website.

Make sure the longer pieces (white papers, case studies, videos, etc.) are easy to find on your website. That way people will have no problem finding what they are looking for when they are at their computer.

Don’t Overlook This

You always have to know how your prospects and customers are accessing information so you can get your message in front of them as easily as possible. Once you have their attention, you need to make sure they can access the more detailed information they need easily.

Failure to do this will cost your company business.  Not a desirable position to be in.
