Content Marketer – Are You Making This Crucial Mistake?

How many prospects are you not adding to your Marketing campaigns and Marketing Funnel?

If You Said None, You Are Wrong ! ! !

How?

By not getting people to give you their email addresses or requesting those addresses prior to giving them free information they seek.

Many marketing departments are guilty of this.

In regular emails they send to people they’d like to add as prospects, they don’t offer them a key report or crucial information which would be valuable to them and which will let them know more about their company or a product or service they offer.

In their blog posts, they don’t ask them to contact them for more information or route them to a “Contact” page for it.

On their websites, they have white papers, case studies, recorded webinars and videos available on their product or service.  Visitors can access these freely without letting the company know who they are.

Critical, Deadly Errors

All of these are critical errors. For those who are doing Content Marketing, they can be deadly.

Stop right now.

What do you do in these situations?

  1. Think about the last 5 emails you sent. Did you offer information on a product or service you offer? Did you include a post script where you offered it again?
  1. In the most recent articles you have written, have you offered the reader any additional information on the product or service you talked about? Did you request they email you for it?
  1. In your blog posts, do you let readers know how they can get additional information? Is this fairly easy for them to do? Do you have brief ads on the right-hand side of your blog pages where you mention a white paper or case study about a product or service you offer and provide a link to where they can get it? Do you request their name and email address so you can email it to them?
  1. If there are videos or webinars on your site, are you requesting the visitor’s name and email address before they can access those?

In Marketing and more importantly Content Marketing, it is critical for you to obtain the email addresses of people who are accessing information on your company or the product or service you offer. You have the opportunity to turn these people into prospects.

Some of these people may be just starting the process of looking for a product or service they need. Others may be further along. They may know what they’re looking for. They’re contacting you to see if your product or service is better than your competitors’. They may also be checking you out to see what type of service they’ll get from you.

Don’t Miss Out on These

Take steps to find out who each one is. Then place them into your marketing funnel as prospects. Place them at the level you believe they’re at. Some may be cold prospects. Others may be almost ready to buy. Start to market to them from that point on.

By doing this you will increase the number of prospects in your marketing funnel. You will be pleasantly surprised at how many become customers.

Remember – you would not have had these if you didn’t proactively get them to raise their hands.
